I’ve spoken with my wife and family about this a lot. “I wanted to retire a Nottingham Panther. You won’t see me signing somewhere else in a few months. “I’ve always been someone that thinks before they speak and act – off the ice at least! “At 36 you aren’t going to get better, so look for the next challenge. “I love hockey and I’ll still be around the sport but the playing time comes to an end and I want to finish the job well. “It’s not feeling like I can’t perform, but before you drop off rapidly you have to be honest - and be grateful for having such a great opportunity.
“It was probably the first time I felt my age but I still shoot the puck well and get around the ice. “I wouldn’t say there was one light bulb moment. I’ve loved every minute, but you have to be realistic,” he said.
